Just when it seems like you’ve finally gotten over that epic New Year’s hangover, another annual celebration. This January brings with it the Chinese year of the dragon, and much like bouts with drunken karaoke, the dragon is outrageous, bombastic, and probably a lot of fun at a party.
Fortunately, typical pictures from traditional cultural festival celebrations aren’t quite as embarrassing as New Year’s Day Facebook hijinks. The AZ Chinese New Year Festival will ditch body shots, glitter and walks of shame in favor of entertainment including martial arts, Tai Chi, live music, fashion, and traditional painting. Perhaps best known for its dance showcase, the fest features dancers of all ages who have completed six months of training at the Eastern Art Academy to learn how to dance with elegant handkerchiefs and floating ribbons that’ll put your 1990s ribbon dancer to shame.
