In the opening segments of the original Iron Chef television show, some guy, presumably a chef, bites into a red bell pepper with orgasmic zeal. Expect nothing less (and potentially even more) from bacon fanatics as they descend on Zinnia’s at Melrose for the Bacon Iron Chef Party on Third Thursday.
The event is something of a community potluck, as bacon-infused dishes are welcomed from all. “Be creative as the options are endless!” the antique shop’s web-posting says. Participants must follow but one rule: Bacon must be a central ingredient in the food or beverage (yes, there is bacon-flavored beer and vodka now). Sampling will be abundant, and the best dish winner gets a $50 gift certificate to spend at the shop.
