A team of scientists from the University of Pennsylvania and MIT recently figured out how to create organ tissue with blood vessels. While the discovery’s upside could be tremendous, a viewing of National Theatre Live’s Frankenstein on Saturday, July 21, might be in order if simply to remind us of the potential downside.

In the taped theatrical production, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, obsessed with pushing science to the limit, synthesizes life in his laboratory in the form of the Creature, who, once walking, repulses his maker. Noted British playwright Nick Dear penned the stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic cautionary tale while Danny Boyle, Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, helmed the production in for the British theater company. Benedict Cumberbatch of BBC’s Sherlock and Jonny Lee Miller of Dark Shadows fame alternate as Dr. Frankenstein and his Creature in Phoenix Art Museum’s screenings.
