If you’ve ever had a premonition that the band geek you made fun of in high school would somehow end up cooler than you, rest easy, because it probably didn’t pan out that way. That is, unless you went to school with eventual members of MarchFourth Marching Band.
While you were fine tuning that flippant sense of cool, these Portland-based band kids were mastering their instruments on their way to becoming one of the country’s most unique acts. With a repertoire reminiscent of a brass band on acid, MFMB adds to the psychedelia with hodgepodge costumery adorning the band members as well as their accompanying stilt-walkers and fire-breathers. Yes, nerds are still nerds, but if March Fourth isn’t the loveliest of aberrations, who knows what is.
