Art, meet science.
This fall ASU’s Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives, the Center for Science and the Imagination, and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing are teaming up to launch the Imagination and Climate Futures Initiative (ICF), a multidisciplinary effort to explore the connection between the creative arts and environmental change.
The innovative venture will host hybrid events that cater to both the humanities and the sciences, including a lecture by acclaimed writer and environmental activist, Margaret Atwood.

Atwood, who has become a central figure in a new literary genre known as climate fiction or “CiFi,” will discuss the impact of imagination on the great outdoors, particularly how the literary arts can be used to address social change, through her most recently published works in the MaddAddam trilogy: Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam.
An Evening with Marget Atwood will be held Wednesday, November 5, at the Herberger Theater Center. Atwood will be avilable for a book signing following her lecture.
