Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
The Arizona Browncoats don’t need to get a life, as per William Shatner, but perhaps we can suggest a social life. See, these are grade-A geeks, fans of a six-years-gone TV show that lasted a mere 14 episodes. Still, give ’em props for wrenching themselves away from their plasma screens and hobnobbing with fellow inhabitants of the Whedonverse at the Arizona Browncoats Shindig.
These folks are all – and we do mean all – about Firefly, the cult sci-fi show created by Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame. (To a slightly lesser degree, they also worship Serenity, the big-screen Hollywood sequel from 2005.) If you, too, feel the lure of the ’verse, grab your Independent Faction duster and head to Bookmans Entertainment Exchange.
