In August of 2000, famous funnyman Gallagher sued his younger brother Ron for co-opting his signature Sledge-o-Matic routine and smashing watermelons for profit all over the country. The comedian won his lawsuit, thereby making him the only Gallagher with permission to eviscerate the summertime fruit on stage.
However, Gallagher the elder cannot prevent you from busting up produce this holiday weekend at the Arizona Science Center’s Daytime Fireworks & Exploding Watermelons demonstration. Cart your melons down between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the museum’s Fireworks Science Team will stuff ‘em with fireworks and blow them up for you.
Since the demo is as much about education as it is about fun, the team will also explain the science behind the sweet slaughter and explore what makes a firework normally show up as pretty colors in the sky.
