Remember that hoary old trope about how beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder? That’s pretty much a perfect way to describe how metal artists Aaron Voigt and Mikey Sarratt transform trash into treasure.
Whereas ordinary folks would regard such items as broken pressure gauges, old springs, fractured clocks, and similar objects as rejects from the scrap heap, the pair of local creative types considers such mechanical detritus the raw materials for their series of recycled robot art. Utilizing these castoff components, Voight and Sarratt build oddly beautiful automatons that are part steampunk and part junkyard chic.
The duo will show off their efforts during the monthlong exhibition “Gears & Rust” at Red Hot Robot. An opening reception for the show takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 4. The show will be on display through December 11.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-7 p.m.; Sundays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Nov. 4. Continues through Dec. 11, 2011
