NASCAR has never been known for subtlety when it comes to corporate sponsors. Even by their standards, the name for this weekend’s race at Phoenix International Raceway — The Profit on CNBC 500 — has to be one of the most ridiculous in the history of the sport.
While the race may lack in the “having a name that will make even a bit of sense on a trophy” department, it certainly won’t lack for drama. Carl Edwards won last year’s race (then called the Fresh Fit 500) and will be looking to launch himself back into title contention after a series of mishaps dashed his hopes last season. Edwards will have to overcome a strong field that includes reigning Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and four-time Sprint champion Jeff Gordon.
The race starts at noon Sunday, March 2, at 7602 South Avondale Boulevard in Avondale. Tickets for the race start at $10 and are available at www.phoenixinternationalraceway.com or by calling 866-408-7233.
