$10,000

One new idea for every day in 2011. We’re talking big, small, local,
international, in action and on the drawing board. Here’s today’s —
what’s yours?

For the centennial of New York Public Library, on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, librarians put together a special text, Know the Past, Find the Future, which highlights stories from 100 noteworthy New Yorkers.
And tomorrow, they’ll scatter 25,000 free paperback copies in public spaces throughout Gotham.
The book’s contributors include Yoko Ono, Stephen Colbert, and members of the Harlem Globetrotters, to name a few, who each write about their favorite item from the library’s collection.
The library’s staff writes that they hope people will find the texts, and — just as they should with other beloved books — pass them on.
