One of our favorite signs of a great party is hearing the buzz of the hullabaloo as we’re approaching from a block or two away. Wherever we stroll through the PHX during the weekend, we’re ecstatic to hear the raucous sounds of people having a good time. What gave our ears a mid-week surprise recently was the clamor emanating down the street from the Clarendon Hotel.
On the rooftop of the midtown gem, Angelina Ramirez leads Flamenco Por La Vida with passion infused in their every Spanish step. Kris Hill’s rumbling percussion helps move hips and feet while Jon Newton’s guitar enchants and the voice of Javier Hernandez lilts and joyously calls to elicit response in kind. Even if you’re not the type to cut a rug, you can partake in palmas, the handclaps that accompany flamenco’s earthy rhythm.
