Author Steve Almond has made a mint satisfying his oral fixations, and he didn’t even need kneepads to do it.

A self-proclaimed chocoholic, Almond dove into the luscious, chocolate-coated underbelly of the sweets industry in his nonfiction book Candyfreak, satisfying his love for language with several witty collections that border on verbal diarrhea. In his latest book of rants, (Not That You Asked), Almond devours cultural icons from the Red Sox to Oprah. “As we all know, TV is a cesspool of mediocrity that sucks precious time and energy from those who fall under its spell,” Almond writes. “In other words, I am an addict.” Considering his book also mentions teenage masturbation and sports fanaticism, we wonder if there’s anything this guy isn’t addicted to.

Meet Almond, get your signed copy of the new screed, and sample a sumptuous chocolate confection — the “Booze Pig Truffle” — created by New Times’ own tart-tongued talent Colin Redding at Changing Hands Bookstore.
