Family Day at monOrchid was an idea spawned by associate curator Nicole Royse’s own, well, spawn.

“Downtown includes so many young families who are afraid to go to museums,” Royse, a mother of three, said. She sees Saturday as an opportunity reconnect children and their parents with their community.

The day revolves around tours of this summer’s “Thermal PHX” exhibition, which runs through August 31. The collection spans sculpture to photography, created by 22 artists hailing from Flagstaff to Tucson. Live performances from musical duo Tres Lunas and painting by Jayme Blue will keep kiddos entertained. Families can work up a sweat with yoga in the grass or cool down in a neighboring kiddy pool.

Downtown eateries Carly’s Bistro, Pallets Food & Bar, and Urban Cookies will provide treats. Playing with food is even encouraged with an interactive veggie art exhibit led by Monika Woolsey.
