Every runner knows that, deep down, every runner is motivated by the same thing. It’s not staying in shape, and it’s certainly not personal satisfaction. No, what keeps runners going when their muscles are screaming and their lungs are burning is knowing that they’ll be able to lord it over their friends later.

With that in mind, Sunday’s Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon and 5K at Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza might be the perfect race. Racers will be outfitted with a Long Sleeve Technical Shirt that tracks their progress with a B-Tag and updates the racers’ friends via text message.

The race starts at 6 a.m. Registration is $70 for the half and $26 for the 5K and can be done online on the www.fiestabowl.org.

Sun., Dec. 14, 6 a.m., 2014
