Official biographers always run the risk of coming across like cheerleaders, but Sam Weller doesn’t seem to mind. He’s an unembarrassed fanboy for his subject: legendary sci-fi/fantasy author Ray Bradbury. Weller trumpets his passionate geekdom in the first lines of the 2005 book The Bradbury Chronicles: The Life of Ray Bradbury (subtitled Predicting the Past, Remembering the Future), which he signs at Changing Hands Bookstore. The Chronicles, which recounts everything from Bradbury’s Hollywood work to his extramarital affairs to his dismay over Michael Moore’s use of the title Fahrenheit 9/11, was a Bram Stoker Award finalist.
Weller will presumably be in Bradbury Nirvana, as The Big Read AZ is in the midst of a season-long celebration of the great man’s Fahrenheit 451, with events at various venues around the Valley.
