With the dwindling of both entertainment budgets and newspaper publishing (sshhhh!), you don’t always hear about a perfect place immediately. The horror!

Turns out that a massive, friendly second-hand bookstore has been serving you since 2008. Dog-Eared Pages Used Books is online-shoppable and yoga-, Scrabble-, and discussion-group-hosting. The owners also send boxes of books to military personnel overseas. If they were a slice of pie, we’d have devoured them while you were still reading the headline.

If that’s not enough, DEP sells new local authors’ works on consignment that’s beautifully displayed in the very front of the north Phoenix shop. The free We Love Our Local Authors! event features visits and signings from local scribes of fiction, non-fiction, self-help, biography, health, and other, um, stuff authors write about. Karen Cafarella, Gayle Noble, Bill Lamperes, Kiki Swanson, and Colleen Sugden are among those scheduled to appear.

Sat., June 12, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 2010
