The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $15,000 by August 9.

$15,000

If you’re more likely to show strangers photos of your Pekingese than your children, you definitely won’t want to miss the 2010 Phoenix Pet Expo. With more than 175 participating exhibitors and rescue groups, you and your furry, feathered, or scaly friends can watch live obedience training and agility demonstrations; get information and advice on pet care, training, and activism; snag free samples and discounts from pet products and vendors; or enter the costume, talent, or pet-owner look-alike contest. If you don’t have a pet in your life, you could meet your soul mate here, as there will be local non-profit rescue groups showcasing their adoptable animals.

This family-oriented event is open to the public. Pets are welcome (with proper immunization papers).

Sat., June 12, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2010
