For a state that sees more annual sunshine than most Norwegians do in their lifetimes, 2012 turned out to be downright gloomy for Arizona sports fans. The Cardinals finished last in their division, the only thing major league about the Diamondbacks was their ability to underperform, and the characteristically stalwart Suns set off on a crash course for the bottom of the western conference barrel. But there was one ironic sliver of hope in the desert last year: ice hockey.
This year’s Phoenix Coyotes are aiming to outdo their 2012 playoff run amidst a lockout-shortened season, knowing all the while that their future in Phoenix is skating on much thinner ice than they are. That’s all the more reason to make it out to a game or two. The Coyotes host the Calgary Flames at Glendale’s Jobing.com Arena.
