Fashion Forward
Vintage Fashion is nothing new — no pun intended. But the good news for fans of vintage couture is that, after 10 years of appointment-only shopping, Vintage Fashion Inc. owner David Sheflin has moved his fabulous fashions into a storefront where anyone can drop in and behold better dresses.

“We used to have an exclusive clientele and only high-end, collectible merchandise,” muses Sheflin, long known as a local fashionista and culture maven. “But now, in addition to our high-end items, we’ve got regular hours and a place where collectors can shop right off the rack.”

Those racks aren’t hung with just any rags, though. Vintage Fashion’s fabulous finds include one-of-a-kind gowns, bags, and jewelry by the likes of Rudi Gernreich, Thierry Mugler, Gianni Versace, Halston, and Todd Montana. “We’re carrying styles from the ’50s through the ’90s,” says Sheflin, who occasionally steps out to curate a museum fashion show or style a magazine shoot. “Everything from Betsy Johnson to Chanel.”

Sheflin’s storefront-shop price points may be lower, but his fashion is still high. Robrt L. Pela

Phoenix Public Market
Downtown’s newest tradition provides both a spirit of community revitalization and a showcase for local agriculture, artists, and crafters. Smack-dab in the heart of the city, this open-air market takes place every Wednesday from 4 ’til 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. ’til 1 p.m. The rest of the week, the Market’s Urban Grocery and Wine Bar picks up the slack with still more farm-fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, free-range eggs, and unique local arts and crafts.

Prosper Antiques
Wide aisles that open up onto dozens of different booths, each carefully displaying vintage wonders from the turn of the last century through the ’60s — that’s what we like in an antique mall, and it’s what we’ve found at Prosper. This new shop offers everything from rattan lawn furniture to Deco flatware; teddy bears to military uniforms — and at prices so low, we can’t resist them. Long live Prosper!
