We grew up listening to an anything-goes radio station that played everything from pop to metal to Motown to hard-core soul. Vocalist/guitarist Rich Michalowski of Southern Cal’s Mighty Six Ninety received a similarly diverse musical education via Tijuana’s famed radio behemoth Mighty 690, and it shows in his band’s fresh-air indie pop, which draws heavily on ´80s fare by bands like The Cure and The Smiths, but also on the harder alt of the ´90s. Good stuff. The band, which doubles as a DJ collective, spins on Friday, November 16, at Homme, then rocks the Rogue Bar, 423 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, with a full-blown concert at 9 p.m. Saturday, November 17. Saturday’s show costs $6.
