Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
This time of year, Phoenicians are all about orange blossoms and junior proms. It’s the season when puppy love is in the air and overdressed teens grind on the dance floor of some cheesy hotel ballroom.
The over-21 crowd, thankfully, has other options — for example, the monthly independent arts showcases hosted by RAW: Phoenix, the local branch of a national artists’ collective. The events spotlight up-and-coming visual artists whose work transforms the downtown Ghost Lounge into a gallery for the night.
The entertainment lineup at April’s RAW: “Unearthed” event includes musical guests ShouTheory and Oxy the Moron, a runway show, DJs Alkemé and Sac Fly, and performance artist iAm Jones, who organizer Tia Oso describes as a “hip-hop generation Teddy Pendergrass.”
