Starting off with Miami bass’s booty-shaking rhythms and the dirty South’s chest-thumping anthems, Diplo has since looked further south, bringing ramshackle funk carioca from the shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro to the forefront.

The DJ and beatmaker of M.I.A.’s current hit, “Paper Planes,” mashes things up during a show at Club Red.
