Sports never seem to come back into fashion after they stop being popular. Competitive bodybuilding is a perfect example. It’s hard to imagine a bodybuilder today being a household name like Lou Ferrigno or Arnold Schwarzenegger once were.
Nowadays some of the most successful bodybuilding organizations are the ones trying to distance themselves from the sport’s popular past. Natural bodybuilding organizations have outlawed the performance-enhancing drugs that fueled bodybuilding’s popularity in the ’70s and, surprisingly, have gained a small measure of mainstream appeal in the process.
If you want to see a natural bodybuilding competition for yourself, yoked blokes and babes will strut their stuff at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, at Mesa Arts Center for the NPC Natural Western USA Championships.
Fri., July 20, 7 p.m., 2012
