One of photography’s powers is the ability to mythologize and exoticize space, inviting viewers to journey afar by psychic means. The images in “Odyssey: The Photographs of Linda Connor” – an exhibit featuring 70 of the artist’s works spanning the last three decades to the present – have this kind of allure.
Connor is a seeker of spiritual places that communicate the ethereal qualities of time and faith, such as India, Indonesia, Turkey, Cambodia, Egypt, Tibet, and the American Southwest. But her body of work is more than just ho-hum travel shots. It’s unique in form and in its aesthetic warmth, as she uses 8” x 10” negatives exposed directly onto paper and prints toned in gold chloride.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 27. Continues through March 8, 2009
