Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Drag yourself away from your latest A Beautiful Mess-inspired DIY project. It’s time for an artistic take on the world of crafting. During the three-day FlashBackForward: Rethinking Craft Symposium, you’ll gain insight into the point at which craft and art intersect.
The symposium begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 26, with a lecture from ceramicist Jessica Jackson Hutchins at Coor Hall in room 174. Programming continues Friday with a sewing performance from artist and Arizona native Paul Nosa. The event concludes Saturday with a series of six lectures from artists and experts, including key note speaker Jenni Sorkin, an assistant professor of Contemporary Art History at University of California.
All events are free and are presented in conjunction with ASU Art Museum’s exhibition “Crafting A Continuum.” For more details and to RSVP for specific events, visit www.asuevents.asu.edu/flashbackforward-rethinking-craft-symposium.
