Would that we lived in a world in which Plan 9 From Outer Space truly was, either aesthetically or morally, the Worst Movie Ever Made. Alas, countless films, some from big studios and featuring big stars, are both less entertaining and more despicable than Ed Wood’s grandly inept 1959 sci-fi/horror saga. The stiff acting (even by actors not playing stiffs), touchingly feeble production values, incoherent plot, and, above all, poetically mangled syntax of Wood’s dialogue have delighted snotty ironists for decades. Now Mystery Science Theater 3000 alumni Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett are using the unintentional comedy of Plan 9 as a springboard for intentional yuks with RiffTrax LIVE: Plan 9 From Outer Space . . . Encore. The show is a taped edition of their downloadable “RiffTrax” movie commentaries that was filmed on Thursday, August 20, in Nashville, Tennessee, to a newly colorized version of Wood’s epic. See the Web site for other Valley screenings.
