The French rep for being snooty snobs is not entirely unfounded. In the world of high-end couturiers, Parisian designers have always held an air of superiority over their American counterparts. That rift is explored in documentary Versailles ‘73: American Runway Revolution, a look into the revolutionary runway shows held at the palace in 1973 that served as a showdown between a home team including Dior and Givenchy and such visitors as Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass.

See the film at Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 North Central Avenue, on Saturday, September 29. The evening begins with a 6 p.m. reception and a screening of the film at 7. A discussion with the film’s director, Deborah Riley Draper, will follow.
