Club dancing is still awesome, but sometimes we’re desperate to get away from the popped collars, tacky go-go dancers, and bland DJ-spun electronica of Scottsdale’s nightlife scene.
We crave something simpler, something from an era when hipsters were idolized and “swinging” didn’t involve swapping wives. For that, there’s Savoy Night at Ghost Lounge, a weekly swing dance event that includes a free half-hour lesson for beginners.
Learn how to do the Lindy Hop, Shag, and Jitterbug with The Savoy Hop Cats, aka instructors Nathaniel and Elizabeth Smalley, and then cut a rug on your own as DJ-ANGO spins old and new school tunes from the likes of Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Christina Aguilera, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Lessons are $8.
