An experimental outfit that uses experimental techniques and instrumentation plays in Scottsdale tonight.
Who could it be? Lucky Dragons? Yellow Swans? The return of Tempe-based Tent/City?
Not exactly. This Canadian-based ensemble performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. (Side note: Jesus God. How amazing would it be if Tent/City got back together for an Olympics gig?)
Have a clue yet?
It’s ScrapArtsMusic, an ensemble that hails from the free spazz/noise/no-wave capital of Vancouver, British Columbia, and whose shtick includes playing “eco-powered percussion. It’s important to note, especially for you weirdo noise fans, that the experimentation doesn’t really factor in the music – a lot of the time, they sound like marching band dropouts – but rather in the recycled and repurposed instruments that they’ve created from accordion parts, artillery shells, and more.
