As part of the graffiti series and the local portrait series I’ve been working on loosely for a while now, I took this photo of Ginae Klasek, who commissioned the mural behind her on 12th Street to counteract the blight created by the local gangs. She worked with Chicanos Por La Causa, a youth organization, to complete the wall with the LA-based muralist. A few kids that helped paint it are included in the wall’s design.

The countdown to Best of Phoenix begins! Last year, we profiled 100 Creatives who made a mark on the local arts scene. This year, we’ll have 100 creative representations of Phoenix. No scope or requirement on medium or size — we’ll include photography, painting, sculpture, video, installation, literary, and more. What do you see when you Imagine PHX?

This year, make your gift count –
