It’s May sweeps again, so you know what that means: sensationalized local television news stories and season finales. Before a summer of reruns hit the airwaves, it’s also a good chance to give a fond seasonal farewell to the monthly stage show Grand Avenue Live!
GAL! might not rank in the Nielsen ratings, but the downtown Phoenix mainstay has kept its finger on the pulse of the art scene for five years. 2009-2010 has been one of well-executed transition: the hosting baton was passed to poet and comedian Ernesto Moncada, while his wife, Anna Moncada, took on musical directorship. Longtime producer and Trunk Space honcho JRC, host emeritus Kevin Patterson, and Valley wordsmith Bill Campana (who moonlights as opening monologue writer) all helped keep the ship steady.
