Woody Allen once said, “Life doesn’t imitate art, it imitates bad television.” But if watching seemingly endless Charm School spin-offs hasn’t yet taught you sophistication, then maybe a night at the museum will muster up some real-life savoir.
ASU’s Art Museum, 51 East 10th Street in Tempe, celebrates its new exhibitions at the free Fall 2011 Season Reception on Friday, September 30. To the glee of intellects, critics, and art devotees the night begins with a two-hour discussion with Marilys Belt De Downey, widow of artist Juan Downey whose work is featured at the museum this season. Valerie Smith, curator of the Downey exhibit, will also speak.
Later in the evening, guests will get a sneak peek at the upcoming season, which includes a variety of media and even a live performance. Ceramics exhibit “Dulce: Bisque Without Borders” will feature an energetic performance by artist Franco Mondini-Ruiz, called Tienda Franco.
