Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw is responsible for the near-extinction of pubic lice, according to a group of UK researchers who, during this week’s British Association of Dermatologists’ Annual Conference, plan to discuss the connection between the sexy HBO show and a decline in sexually transmitted Pthirus pubis.

The researchers’ contention? Thanks to Carrie and her trendsetting capacity, the Brazilian wax went mainstream. No hair down there means no habitat for those pesky little blood-suckers. Without a place to live, they won’t.
One of the author’s behind this week’s presentation, Dr. Kun Sen Ched, says in a press release statement, “What we have seen at work is the law of unintended consequences, in popularising hair removal Carrie Bradshaw and co. have contributed to ridding humanity of pest that had plagued humans for millions of years [sic]. Sadly there isn’t an Emmy for that.”
We aren’t sure exactly who is sad the Emmys don’t hand out awards for televised performances that result in terminating a species (or that the link between Carrie and crabs is legit), but our fingers are crossed that in 10 years Breaking Bad‘s Walter White will be responsible for the death of the goatee — and whatever’s crawling around in it.
