Sunset in an old town in the American West. Two men face each other in an empty street, motionless, their fingers hovering expectantly over holstered pistols. A twitch, and the guns are out, bullets ripping the air and the body of the target. It’s over in a second, one man on the ground, the other trudging off into the desert.
The western shootout has established its place in Southwest lore, and you can relive it at Gun Down by Sundown, part of this year’s Wild West Days at Cave Creek. For the event, gunfighter groups from around Arizona and the nation will shoot it out at multiple locations in downtown Cave Creek virtually every hour on the hour until sundown. Saddle up, pilgrim.
