One of our, and your, favorite local stars of both the musical and straight (as it were) stage is the brassy, funny, rangy Johanna Carlisle. And Saturday night, May 8 (tomorrow), is a perfect time to help make it a happy Mother’s Day for this working mom whose son needs orthodontia, which don’t come cheap.
A great friend of the local theater community has gathered a handful of sweet talent to serenade his Glendale back yard during “Broadway Under the Stars,” with proceeds to benefit Carlisle’s family. It’s all okay with the neighbors and the po-po, so throw a blanket, cushion, or lawn chair in the car, bring what you can donate (a suggested $5 minimum), and relax with some musical theater favorites on what should still be a decent evening, weather-wise.
There’ll also be refreshments, candles, and other tchotchkes on sale for the cause. The entertainment starts at 7 p.m. Contact broadwaybystarlight@gmail.com for the address and directions to the house (it’s near 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive). Just in case you don’t hear back in time and you’re my Facebook friend, I know you’re cool, so just hit me there for the event deets.
