We’re tired of reading the preseason practice reports of college-football squads. They basically all say the same thing. Most teams feel great and think they can compete for the national championship. Whatever. These canned quotes are wack. Thankfully, beginning next week, we won’t have to hear this anymore when the 119 participants in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision begin the put-up-or-shut-up regular season. The Sun Devil pigskinners are just as guilty as anyone for their inflated optimism. However, the Devils’ home opener looms, so the ASU Football Scrimmage and Fan Appreciation Day will be the team’s final chance to say things like, “Our team chemistry has never been this good in the past.” Uh-huh. We’ll see if this is true in December.
