When Emily Fischer‘s mother started losing her eyesight, she decided to start mapping … on quilts.
The Brooklyn-based architect and designer calls her project, Soft-Maps, an “experiment in tactile wayfinding,” but more than practical navigation, her quilts are a physical love letter to each city and neighborhood she makes.
Fischer writes that her creations are, simply, reminders of home: “In a world that is increasingly
digitized and remote, a quilted Soft-Map provides an expressive way to
reconnect with your surroundings.”
