As summer draws to a close—well, almost—desert dwellers who aren’t exhausted by the heat are likely tired of the constant suggestions of ways to cool off. Instead of battling the high temps, art lovers can embrace these hottest of days with a seasonally-themed exhibit.
Method Art’s first ever juried competition “Dog Days of Summer” features the best of the best in local photography. That came as a pleasant surprise to the gallery’s owner, Davin Lavikka, considering the show drew entrants from several states, and the exhibit’s judges were all located in New York City.
After the jurors weeded through some 337 submissions by 60 individual artists, the top three winners were all Arizona-based creative types. Leading the pack was overall champ Luis Salazar, who used a large format camera wrapped in plastic to create a surreal, almost translucent image of a woman holding a party mask.
