It takes a lotta moxie to be a baseball fan these days. The Biogenesis scandal has been hogging the headlines as if those were the last steroid needles on earth. Meanwhile, thanks to the lack of a salary cap, the Dodgers have been demonstrating — quite convincingly — that the team with the fatter checkbook always wins in the end. It’s little wonder that, to younger generations, America’s Pastime is just a fading vestige of America’s Past.

Nevertheless, a few ball-clubs still exhibit the same perseverance it requires to be a baseball fan today, and playoffs or no playoffs, the 2013 Arizona Diamondbacks have proved to be one of them. When the storied San Francisco Giants visit Chase Field, 401 East Jefferson Street, at 6:40 p.m. Friday, August 30, there will be little doubt as to who the tougher, prouder team is. At least this season that is. Tickets start at $15. Visit www.dbacks.com or call 602-514-8400 for details.

Fri., Aug. 30, 6:40 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 31; Sun., Sept. 1, 2013
