Scampering 13.1 or 26.2 miles is never a breeze, but if you’re choosing to do so for the first time, the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon and 1/2 Marathon is the way to go.

Much like rocking headphones at the gym to distract your jelly-approaching legs from hours of cardio, sonic distractions are all over the place on the route, which begins at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza, 1700 West Washington Street, and finishes near Sun Devil Stadium, 500 East Veterans Way in Tempe. Aside from the cheer squads and yell lines that will remind you of high school, there will be all sorts of live bands playing rockabilly, Christian rock, bluegrass, funk, and classical jams.

Stuff gets going at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, January 17. Hours for the post-race festival in Tempe, which features a performance by Everclear, are from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
