Don’t tell Los Angeles — they’ll be pissed — but there’s a new documentary that details the ways in which its modern-art scene came of age in the Fifties and Sixties. If Angelenos are annoyed by The Cool School: How LA Learned to Love Modern Art, it’ll only be because the film – narrated by actor Jeff Bridges and focused mostly on L.A.’s Ferrus Gallery – describes the impact of New York artists like Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol (whose first-ever soup-can show took place at Ferrus) on Southern California art. It also celebrates the contributions of local talent like Ed Ruscha, Craig Kauffman, Ed Moses, and Robert Irwin.
