First came Dads are the Original Hipsters. Then Portlandia announced that the 1890s are experiencing a rebirth in the Northwest. Somewhere between the two is filmmaker Andrew Beck Grace’s premise for the documentary Eating Alabama. In it, a husband and wife relocate to Alabama and attempt to live off of the land as their grandparents did. That meant consuming locally produced and in-season grub year-round.
As part of Arizona Science Center’s ongoing “Chew on This” series, the film will screen on Saturday, February 23. A question-and-answer session will follow with local slow food advocates Natalie Morris, of Good Food Allies, and Maya Dailey from Maya’s Farm.
