Just now realizing you missed National Dance Week? We’d say you’re kicking yourself, but most people limber enough to literally kick themselves were down with the annual event, originated by those who sell leotards to glorify those who wear them. (Frankly, the United Dance Merchants of America’s devotion to stretchiness, spangles, and tulle is a boon for hoofers seeking to wow an audience, so it’s a symbiotic relationship, mos def.)
Here’s the beauty part, though: Arizona’s NDW event, the 11th Celebration of Dance, is being reprised at Phoenix Theatre. Each of 20 companies – including Metro Arts Dancers, Martha Hernandez, Celtic Dance Academy, Nrityanjali Institute of Dance, and Scorpius Dance Theatre – will present a performance, in genres and styles from all over the map (again, literally — the map).
