Noted grump and literary genius Mark Twain once said, “Truth is stranger than fiction.” Local, award-winning playwright Kim Porter would likely agree with the sentiment, as her workshop Writing for the Stage with Kim Porter involves drawing inspiration from life events and searching for truths in those situations. It’s a process Porter has mastered in writing and performing her plays, and one that attendees will use to develop their own ideas for the stage during weekly class meetings on Thursdays.

The class meets at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, and concludes with a public reading of completed works on April 7. Participation in the workshop is $120, which covers all classes and the reading.

Thursdays, 6:30 p.m.; Sat., April 7. Starts: March 8. Continues through April 5, 2012
