Canada has given us some notable comedians throughout the years. They’ve formed a universal identity with their kooky and slightly off-kilter view that only the most polite society could produce. If you started making a list, you would be hard pressed not to come up with a string of names so white they wouldn’t even show up on paper. It’s not likely a second-generation Middle Eastern Catholic would come to mind — unless you already know of Russell Peters.
Russell is an Anglo-Indian stand-up comedian-slash-actor that began performing in his hometown Toronto in 1989. He has traveled the world since, espousing his thoughts on culture and relationships. Where most comedians stop short on stereotypes with color, Russell playfully digs deeper into the wide array of diversity within each section of the world. His observations point out the idiosyncrasies in all of us.
