Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Jaded types who snarkily consider steampunk to be more blasé than all the pirates, zombies, ninjas, and vampires of the world put together probably shouldn’t get within a dirigible-length of Old Tucson this weekend. Frankly, such magniloquent buffoons ain’t gonna be welcome ‘round those parts, especially during the Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention II — lest they’re eager to face the business end of a fantastical-looking firearm wielded by any of the thousands dressed in Victorianesque costumes likely to attend the event.
The Wild West-inspired movie studio will transmogrify into a steampunk paradise for the weekend-long retro-futuristic hullabaloo devoted to the alternate-history art form. The three-day fete will feature workshops covering everything from costuming to character development, panels featuring such special guests as noted tinkerer Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Studios and author Muffy Morrigan, and even an appearance by Steampunk Boba Fett.
