All you’ll need to get into the StoryCorps silver Airstream trailer in January is a friend and a few questions.
StoryCorps, a nonprofit dedicated to recording and preserving American stories, will make a stop in Phoenix from January 6 to 29 to record 120 interviews and conversations, with the collaboration of local public radio station KJZZ 91.5 FM.
A selection of the recordings will be aired on KJZZ and nationally on NPR’s Morning Edition.
Each 40-minute interview aims to engage two people who know and care about each other, with the help of a StoryCorps facilitator. When each interview is over, participants receive a CD copy of their conversation and, with permission, a second copy is sent to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
To participate, you can nab an interview reservation online or by phone (1-800-850-4406) starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16. (StoryCorps is asking for a $25 minimum donation per interview.)
The Airstream will be parked at the Phoenix Public Library’s Burton Barr Central Library ,1221 N. Central Ave., throughout its stay in January.
StoryCorps was founded in 2003 by documentary producer Dave Isay, whose goal was to create an audible portrait of American people. The non-profit currently boasts one of the largest collections of American voices from more than 60,000 Americans nationwide.
