We’ve got a serious case of the Sundays, and we need the soulful twilight ministrations of Paisley Yankolovich’s The Liberal Soul.
Pastor Paisley is a disciple of God and devotee of Burt Bacharach, but we also sense a costuming collision of Mildred Pierce and Liza Minnelli. Delighting in catty metaphor while twitching his dark eyebrows, Yankolovich’s YouTube sermons have the allure of public access television. When he transforms that into his one-man show, he preaches the word of Yahweh wearing clunky steampunk boots and glittery cocktail dresses.
“I concentrate on the audience-to-be,” says Yankolovich about his preaching preparations. “[I] pray for them, keep in mind that each person is different, each person matters, so that the show is always unique to the evening.”
