On Friday, November 16, Valley dance aficionados will have an opportunity to see some of New York’s finest and freshest performance art when Garth Fagan Dance comes to the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 East Second Street. Led by the Tony Award-winning choreographer of the Disney-inspired Broadway show The Lion King, the troupe has become known for its originality and high-energy performances. Fagan draws from various dance and music styles, synthesizing such influences as Afro-Caribbean rhythm and classic ballet.
The company will perform a selection of works spanning more than thirty years of choreography, including excerpts from Griot New York, widely recognized as Fagan’s masterpiece to date. The performance will also be the Arizona-première of Fagan’s newest piece, titled Lighthouse/Lightning Rod, which features the music of Grammy-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
