Perhaps the thought of sunbathing while sipping a brisk, summery libation isn’t a welcome one for winter starved Phoenicians this time of year. But don’t let the sweltry moniker of Los Angeles-based duo Poolside dissuade you, the band is every bit as chill as the chilliest of Sonoran evenings.
DJs/producers Jeffrey Paradise and Filip Nikolic began collaborating in a California pool house turned recording studio, and their resulting breezy brand of boogie perfectly reflects its ‘lax birthplace. In fact, it’s impossible to spin Poolside’s breakout single “Do You Believe?” without tan, coconut-oiled bodies bouncing around your mind’s eye.
Coining their own genre of “daytime disco,” they strike a smooth synergy of both traditional and synthetic instrumentation, particularly favoring real-life bass and electric guitar grooves.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
